"Some Model 1893s had serial numbers obliterated and "W.R.A. Co." stamped in their place ... Winchester 1897. Hello all, I just picked up a Winchester solid frame 1897 12 ga. Cyl bore SN 506,XXX and have a few questions. The shotgun has more of a brown patina than blue remaining, actions cycles correctly but seems tight. I noticed you have to slightly bump the slide forward before it will pump on the initial cycle.Here we see the right-hand side of the Winchester M1897 shotgun. This particular one is a 12 Gauge and features a 20in. (50.8cm) barrel with a cylinder bore and has a tube magazine capacity of five 2.75in. shells. Worth noting, these shotguns cannot chamber 3.0in. shells, and steel shot and magnum loads, etc., should be avoided in these shotguns.
