I built my version of smitty sled out of 2 downhill skis and a old bed frame over 20 years ago before I ever heard of a smitty sled. And I stole the idea from someone else. ... The one nice thing about his design is you can raise or lower the sled but I wouldn't every buy one, I'd rather make my own from scratch. Logged IFF. I use a smaller otter sled with a hub shelter so it’s a bit different than what you’ll have with the cabin or resort, but I made my smitty quite a bit wider than the sled; like catnip mentioned.The Easy Sled was designed to improve on the original Smitty Sled design which can be heavier, slightly more awkward to assemble/disassemble, tends to collect water/ice and may rot over time. Going to lower it about 5 inches also. Overguessedimated that a little. Don't think I need 24 inches or ground clearance. by cutting back to 19 inches it can double as a seat. last thing is to add some bracing on side panels.

Set your side pieces favoring the back it will help keep your tips of the skies up. When you drill the tips for your rope tie the knot on the top of the ski. So when you pull the rope is lifting the tips, also you want to be around 10ft in front of the sled so allow enough rope. I feel your pain, I jsut built my version of a smitty last night! pair of skiis, 8 1/2" flanges 4 10"x1/2" pipe wood screws and 1-1x3x10 cut in half. Straps hook to the pipe, I still need to att eh tow rope to the pipes but thats a quick fix. Logged. Oct 27, 2021 · My Gen1 sled had the rope bolted to the wood. My gen 2 sled went through the ski tips. It did make a difference in deeper snow. Also had to play with the length of rope. Closer to the sled was better and easier in deep snow. Now a longer rope is nice on bare ice. Got hit in the legs alot with the sled. I use it to pull out a hub sometimes. ….

Nov 23, 2022 · 1. Get your measurements. Measure the width of your bed and subtract one inch from that number, then multiply by two to get the length. (most beds are wider than they are long) 2. Cut 2 pieces of MDF (or plywood) to those lengths, then cut 1/4″ strips down each side so that the total thickness is about 1/4″. 3. Not at all. But it does make pulling a bunch of heavy fishing equipment way easier. So why not build one for yourself? It’s pretty cheap to do and even easier to make. At least easier than you might think.
