I can get a 2015 1199 R (mint condition, and only 2k miles) for around the same price as a new V2. $18.5k for the 1199 R and my dealer has quoted me at $17.6k OTD for a V2. The use case is really just a weekend fun bike. Taking it to the twisty mountain roads near my house. Occasionally might ride it into the office. Never in the rain or winter. The 796 is a decent bike, but way over priced. But, if you're on a budget and need a new Ducati, this one makes the most sense. The 1100 is a great bike, but again, the pricing feels like a kick in the balls.
