Only thing you can change is set up Sandbox instead of Survival, than change the amount of zombie start multiplier (you can find it in the advanced zombie options, the default should be 1.0, I recommend 0.7). The AI of the survivors can be rough around the edges when it comes to defending themselves against zombies or chatting to each other but they are definitely able to help a lot around your base and make the world feel more alive (lol). The mod author has put a lot of work into the survivors code and it shows.
