Classical antiquity, also known as the classical era, classical period, classical age, or simply classical history or antiquity, [1] is the period of cultural history between the 7th century BC and the late 5th century AD, and relevant to the lands around the Mediterranean Sea, [note 1] dominated by the Greco-Roman world. It’s confusing but the word “Classical” (capitalized) refers to the specific 90-year period that we are covering in this post, while “classical” (non-capitalized) refers to the whole western art tradition (which also includes the Baroque and Romantic periods, for example).
