Crinoid columnal fossil

May 28, 2016 · This piece is one of many that I would like some help identifying. It looks to me that there area bunch of little fossils in this rock, hopefully y'all can see all the little bits in the photos. I believe that big round one (circled in red) is a crinoid columnal, and there also looks like there is a peace of shell in this rock too. .

It is composed of a series of ridges and grooves radiating from the center to the edges. At the center, the ridges do not connect to a central point (at least in no example that I’ve found). The different shapes of crinoid stem plates are useful for classification, but some fossil crinoids, like many modern forms, lack stems. Crinoid stem columnals: 1 Crotalocrinites (Silurian), 2 Pentacrinites (Jurassic), 3 Bourgueticrinus (Cretaceous).
